If you like to work in a sales environment and interact with people then you can apply to be a Sales & Services/Distribution Associate of the United States Postal Service. To succeed in this position, you need to be familiar with postal laws, regulations, and procedures.

As a Sales & Services/Distribution Associate, your task is to give sales and customer services at a retail window to USPS clients. This includes selling and maintaining a sufficient inventory of stamps, stamped paper, and other retail products and services. You may also issue and cash foreign and domestic postal money orders; accept and respond to customer claims and inquiries; and disseminate information to the public about postal regulations.

Inherent in the job description of a USPS Sales & Services/Distribution Associate is greeting customers and explaining to them their store layout; determining their special interests and referring them to sales and promotional programs; offering them assistance in the selection of products; and answering customer inquiries when needed. Depending on the custome’s needs, the Sales & Services/Distribution Associate enlightens them on special product and merchandise offers and gives additional information about its features and services.

To perform your job successfully, you may be required to use a computer and a point of sale system to handle and process customer purchases and returns. You are also required to set up, arrange, and replenish displays and merchandise racks. You should also see to it that all displays and selling areas as well as work stations and storage areas are presentable to postal clients. Before dispensing the items to customers, you should count them and attach and remove security devices.

It is also your responsibility to verify and record sales for inventory purposes. If there are discrepancies, you should inform your supervisor immediately. You may also be asked to verify presorted and bulk mailings of all classifications; check and set up post office stamp-vending machines and postage meters; and rent post office boxes receive rental payments; conduct reference checks and complete forms. You may also distribute primary and one or more secondary schemes of incoming and outgoing mail by delivery point based on knowledge of the distribution scheme established for the facility you are assigned in. You are required to follow safe methods and precautions in performing your duties.

Sales & Services/Distribution Associates earn around $14 to $15 per hour. There are also limited benefits.
