The United States Postal Service tries to do everything in its power to ensure that the postal workers they hire are physically, emotionally, and mentally fit for their jobs. For starters, they have to pass a rigorous and time-pressured postal battery exam which basically checks if they have the skills and aptitude necessary to become a US postal worker. Part of postal 473-e test that all entry-level career track candidates need to take is the Personal Characteristics and Experience Inventory exam where the USPS seeks to create a profile based on your answers. Other steps in the hiring process include interviews and background checks which are designed to ensure that only the most talented individuals make it to postal service positions.
Unfortunately, there are U.S. Mail workers who still provide poor service despite undergoing these tests. Mail might not get delivered to your address on time or if at all. Questions you have about your mail or parcel may not get answered to your satisfaction. Some postal workers may just find altercations with postal customers a “normal” part of their job.
Whether this is due to negligence, stress on the job or other factors, what’s important is that you as a client can do something about it. You can file a complaint with the US Postal Service about the worker or post office that is not providing you with the best customer service. By doing so, you improve the service of this independent federal agency while helping the USPS spot workers who might be in need of some much-needed break or even counseling.
One way to file a complaint with the USPS is to go to their website (https://www.usps.com) and click on the Customer Service link on the top page. You can send them an email and they assure that they will get back to you in 24 hours. Be as detailed in your email and make sure to choose from the dropdown box the inquiry type so that it will be routed to the proper channels faster.
