If you live in Ohio and have been waiting for an opportunity to work for the United States Postal Service then this is your chance. There Northern Ohio District of the U.S. Postal Service has just opened new jobs for those who want to be city carrier assistants (CCA). The recruitment period starts from January 23, 2013 until January 27. Specifically, there are employment opportunities for prospective applicants who live in Westerville, Athens, Amelia, Kenton, Bradford, and Piqua, among others. Postal work is anticipated to start on March this year should become successful in your application.

A city carrier assistant is a new category of ‘noncareer employees’ within the U.S. Postal Service who may have a path to regular employment as a career letter carrier in the future. Initially, CCAs are hired for 360 days. They may be rehired for another 360 days after a 5-day break in service. City carrier assistants generally earn around $15 an hour and are given limited benefits. These include opportunities for raises, paid vacation days and access to health insurance after the first year of appointment.

A CCA basically performs the same job as city letter carriers. Generally, your main task is to deliver and collect mail on foot or vehicle in varying road and weather conditions in your assigned route. You are also expected to maintain effective and professional relations with postal clients. To be able to perform your duties well, a knowledge or at least familiarity with postal rules and regulations. You also need to be familiar with the geography of the area, which is one reason for confining this employment opportunity to those who live within 40 miles from the facility. Other responsibilities of a CCA are delivering and collecting charges on customs, postage-due and COD mail matter; using a portable scanner as instructed; and other clerical duties.

To apply for this position, you will need to create a Candidate Profile within the USPS website (www.usps.com/employment). Make sure that you complete your profile with care as only a limited number will be invited to take the Postal Service Test 473, a mandatory requirement for this position. This is an aptitude test that will determine if you have the skills that will enable you to perform the job of a CCA well. It is composed of three parts: Part A is Address Checking; Part B is Forms Completion; and Part C is Coding and Memory.
