If you’re one of the thousands across the country who are hoping to have a stable post office career, your first hurdle is passing the postal battery exam 473 or 473-e. While you simply need to get a minimum score of 70 to get postal service jobs anywhere in the country, you need to make sure that you get higher than this to get that one shot at an interview.

The thing is, the postal exam 473-e is a very challenging test, not because it is inherently difficult per se. In fact, it is rather simple if you weren’t under such extreme time pressure. Take the Address Checking section which has 60 questions. All you really need to determine is if the two addresses given are exactly alike or different in address, zip code, or both. But here’s the rub: You need to complete answer the questions in only 660 seconds or 11 minutes which gives you only 11 seconds for each question.

Or take the Forms Completion test. You are given 30 questions which you have to answer in 15 minutes. That means only 30 seconds to answer each question. In the Coding Section, you have 6 minutes to answer 36 questions and 7 minutes to answer 36 questions in the Memory section of the test. That’s roughly 10 seconds for every question!

When you look at the time pressure you are subjected to when you take the battery exam 473, you know you have your work cut out ahead of you. Is there a way of beating the time pressure for these tests? Before we answer this question, it’s important to understand that there are no facts to memorize for the postal battery test. It’s not like the SATs or other entrance tests for a university where you will have to memorize theories and other facts.

That being said, how do you prepare for a postal battery exam 473/postal exam 473-e to ensure that you will beat the time requirement and score high in the test?

The first thing that you can do is to practice using the free postal exams study guide which you can find online. Another important thing you can do to prepare yourself for the 473/473-e test is to enhance your memorization skills. There are various exercises online which will help you better remember things. A keen memory will certainly help you in the Memory and Coding portion of the test.
