Navigation Tips when Creating your USPS Candidate Profile

If you are new to the USPS online application portal then you might be having issues navigating the buttons when you create your eCareer Profile or Candidate Profile; the first step towards being able to apply for jobs with the United States Postal Service (USPS). Here are some quick navigation tips to help you move forward with your application for postal employment opportunities that much more quickly.

Before you start typing in information about yourself, get the lay of the land “or in this case, the screen” first. Look at the various tabs (e.g. Job Opportunities, Favorites, Candidate Profile) so you know where they are located and what kind of information they are looking for. For instance, you use the Favorites tab to bookmark the jobs that you have encountered in your search and would like to review at a later time. One important feature of the Job Opportunities tab is that it allows you to view the status of your applications.

A common complaint that some postal job applicants have is when nothing happens when they click on a button to go forward to the next section. Most of the time, the reason for this is that the button requires that a selection be made before it will be able to process an action. For example, if you want to withdraw a particular job application, you can’t just click on the Delete/Withdraw button to process the action for you. You must first tick the box to the left of the application you wish to withdraw so that the line will turn orange. Only when it does will you be able to click on the Delete/Withdraw button to get the job removed from your list of applications.

The same holds true for editing information that you already have saved into the system. You must first tick the box to the left of the data that you wish to edit before you can select the ‘Edit’ button and make changes to your data. Don’t forget to save your changes by clicking on “Save.”

You may also put as many entries as you want in the various categories, like work experience. Just make sure that everything you put in your eCareer Profile will enhance your application, not clutter it.

Finally, you should be able to verify if your application to a particular postal employment opportunity was received by the system by checking your email. If it’s not in your inbox, check your spam folder just to be sure. You may also be able to track the status of your applications (and see if it was received) by clicking on the “My Applications” link on the “Job Opportunities” tab in your eCareer Profile.
