US Postal Service Office of the Inspector General: Human Resources Auditor/Audit Evaluator Job Description

The Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service is tasked to maximize the revenues, minimize the costs, and prevent and detect fraud and other forms of abuses that happen within the country’s premier Federal mail organization. As such, this agency provides reports to the Postal Service Executives, the Board of Governors, and Congress for this purpose.

A Human Resources Auditor/Audit Evaluator conducts audits and reviews of the Postal Service areas that involve the use of human capital. These include employee compensation and benefits, equal employment programs, healthcare/worker’s compensation, human resources, and labor-management relations. In fact, there is currently one vacancy for this position in the United States Postal Service location in Carol Stream, Illinois. Applications are accepted from December 20, 2012 to January 11, 2013.

As a Human Resources Auditor/Audit Evaluator of the US OIG, you will be required to perform jobs that require the application of auditing or audit evaluation principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines. You may be asked to lead an audit team or participate as a member in one. Part of your job will be to evaluate agency programs and operations to check if they comply and adhere to the regulations and adequacy of internal controls over operations. It is also your job to recommend corrective actions when necessary. You may also be asked to write audit working papers and reports.

This postal employment opportunity is only open to US citizens who are able to pass physical examinations, drug screening, background investigations, and can obtain/maintain a government-issued card. You should also have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in accounting) from an accredited college or university and at least four years’ experience in conducting program and performance audits. If you have Postal Service specialized experience in employee compensation and benefits, equal employment (EEO) programs, health care/worker's compensation, human resources, or labor-management relations, this can be used in place of one or more years of audit experience.
