Preparing for the USPS Associate Supervisor Tests

As a USPS postal worker, you can ascend towards positions of leadership. One of the programs that they have is the Associate Supervisor Program (ASP) which aims to give effective leadership skills and training to those interested in moving up the career ladder. It is a 16-week program which combines classroom training and hands-on experience. It covers lessons in administration, operations, and the technical know-how necessary to become a supervisor of the USPS. The program will last for 16 weeks and participants need to pass a total of five ASP tests for them to be able to successfully complete it.

Since the exams will largely determine if you will be able to move up the leadership ladder, you need to prepare yourself for these exams. Here are some tips to help you prepare for these rigid tests:

  1. Listen very well to the lectures and take notes during discussions. Ask questions if a concept or idea is not clear. By doing these, you are arming yourself with golden pieces of information which will help you greatly when you review for these tests. Be especially familiar with all aspects of the operations, services, productions, and general policies of the USPS. The first two tests will cover these.
  2. Study your workbook which will be given to you when you first enroll in the program. The policies and procedures can be found here. Familiarize yourself with each chapter and study these well when there are scheduled tests for them.
  3. Make sure that you know your functional training requirement. You might be doing on-site functional training for customer service or for another segment of the USPS operations. The final three tests will be about your functional training so this means that you will not be taking the same tests as your classmate. Make the necessary preparations by reviewing your notes and other resources for these parts of the test.
  4. On the night before your scheduled exams, be sure to clock in 6 to 8 hours of sleep. This way you will wake up refreshed and ready for the mental challenge that lies ahead. Don’t forget to have a nutritious breakfast. You will need the fuel to answer the questions.
  5. Do arrive at the testing site at least 30 minutes before the time. By being there early, you have the time to compose yourself before the test. If you arrive late, your mental and emotional focus will be gone. Worse, you risk being denied taking the test.

Good luck on your ascent up the leadership ladder in your postal career!
