For around 90 percent of the applicants, this is the postal exam 473-e, an aptitude test on Address Checking, Forms Completion, and Coding and Memory. For those who want to work in technical maintenance jobs with the USPS, postal test 955 needs to be taken. For Data Conversion Operator jobs, it’s postal exam 710 while. Preference eligible military veterans who want to work in custodial jobs with the Postal Service need to take postal exam 916. If you’re already in the thick of preparations for any written exam you’re scheduled to take with the US Postal Service, there are some things that are worth keeping in mind. You may consider this unsolicited advice but it is food for thought that is meant to help you pass any postal test you will take.

First of all, remember that familiarity breeds confidence. The more you know what the test is about, the more you will be able to answer the questions quickly and accurately. Know everything about the postal test you will take. And by everything, we mean everything. Understand the objective of the postal test; know the instructions by heart; and the time limits involved in each section. If it is an electronic test, try to use electronic study guides that simulate how the test is going to be given. By being familiar with everything about the postal exam you are about to take, you increase your confidence level significantly which will also greatly help you in getting a high score.

Second, be honest. In some postal exams, the test questions are designed to create a profile of you as a potential USPS employee. Your answers are scored (but the USPS will not reveal how) and getting a high score will greatly determine whether you will get called for an interview or not. There is no point in trying to guess the “correct answers” for this type of test as it comes with its own inherent checks. The best thing you can do is to give honest answers based on your previous experiences. Consistency really matters and you can’t be consistent if you’re trying to rig the answers.

Finally, remember that preparation works wonders. There are many study guides that you can buy online and in bookstores to help you prepare for postal battery exams. Use the most updated ones. Answer the sample questions given in these study guides and search for even more online. The more exercises you do, the greater your comfort level will be when the day of the test will come. When you are prepared, you have better chances of passing a postal battery exam with flying colors.
